I've been asked "which is better?" In reference Stratia's Liquid Gold and Holy Snail's Snowbang. They have very very little in common and I have a whole post on that coming but first I thought I would share my full review of Liquid Gold! I think many of the questions come from the fact that I offer Stratia decants but have only reviewed Holy Snails products... Until now. Well Holy Snails offers samples. Stratia doesn't. Stratia's products are newer and I test long term plus I had to fit them into my testing schedule and then well... my electronics issues happened. But now... The review is happening.

So what is this Liquid Gold Product anyway?

Complicated man. But the sales page breaks it down for you. No extra googling required.

"A lightweight but powerful moisturizer that fortifies your skin’s moisture barrier to help heal, hydrate, strengthen, and soothe.Your skin’s moisture barrier (the stratum corneum, or outermost layer of the epidermis) has a bricks-and-mortar structure: the bricks are skin cells called corneocytes, and the mortar is a fatty mixture made up of ceramidescholesterol, and free fatty acids. This mixture keeps your skin healthy, clear, and resilient. If it’s compromised, it can lead to skin that’s:
  • Flaky
  • Simultaneously dry and oily
  • Lax, sallow, or dull
  • Itchy and/or easily irritated
  • Extremely sensitive
  • Acne-prone
Liquid Gold is formulated with ceramides, cholesterol, and fatty acids to mimic and strengthen your natural moisture barrier. By healing your dehydration and replenishing that fatty mixture in your stratum corneum, you can address the above symptoms and discover healthy, bouncy, resilient skin. It’s great for all skin types, and works especially well on dehydrated or over-exfoliated skin.
Like all Stratia products, Liquid Gold is unfragranced, gimmick-free, and formulated based on hard science."
The page even answers common questions before you need to ask.
Liquid Gold gets its gold hue from two types of sea buckthorn oil, both of which are fantastic sources of a wide range of fatty acids and are also bright red. While it may look a little unusual, for the vast majority of users, the color disappears when you apply it and won't dye or tint your skin. However, a slight orange tint may be noticeable on extremely pale skin (lighter than MAC shades NC10/NW10). In that case, Liquid Gold can be used as an overnight mask."

I'm around an NC10 (except they only make NW15 and only in select products because MAC SUCKS. I wear 01 Light Glow in Giorgio Armani's Crema Nuda, Alabaster in Chanticallie, N1 in CoverFX, and the new shade 41 from Kat Von D should match but I need to test for sure...

The cool thing about the yellow tint if you DO use it during the day? It cancels out redness. It's easily covered with super light makeup. Seriously its not like... well Tumeric comes to mind actually. That I wash off. Always.

What's In it?

Stratia liquid gold back
The ingredients and instructions are clearly printed right
on the bottle.
Ingredients: Water (Aqua), Propylene Glycol, Ethoxydiglycol, Niacinamide, Polyglyceryl-3 Methylglucose Distearate, Rosa Mosqueta (Rose) Hip Oil, Hippophae Rhamnoides (Sea Buckthorn) Seed Oil, Hippophae Rhamnoides (Sea Buckthorn) Fruit Oil, Panthenol, Dimethicone, Glycerin, Squalane (olive-derived), Cetyl Alcohol, Vaccinium Macrocarpon (Cranberry) Seed Oil, Tocopherol, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Ceramide NP, Ceramide AP, Ceramide EOP, Phytosphingosine, Cholesterol, Sodium Hyaluronate, Sodium Lauroyl Lactylate, Carbomer, Xanthan Gum, Diazolidinyl Urea, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Disodium EDTA.

COSDNA for the curious there are some pretty common red flags in skincare. Squalane is an acne trigger for some people though? That is terrible. I buy straight squalane... Note though it is oil derived for those who care for sharks. As always YMMV you know your skin better than a website. Test slowly and all that OK?

I personally love Rose Hip Oil, Sea Buckthorn Oil, Niacinamide, Ceramides (note more than one kind... and even Urea. Don't worry. It's low enough concentration that it doesn't smell bad. Or like anything really.

I would say more about the cool stuff in the product but I don't have to...

She even links to studies on the sale page!

Less work for me. Thanks!

"Want some more science? Check out studies on these key ingredients:The holy grail combo of ceramides, cholesterol, and fatty acidsNiacinamidePanthenolHyaluronic Acid"

Holy grail combo... I hate that term but for this product... in two years or so it will fit the bill. Yeah. Benton Steam Cream is technically still my "HG" cream even though I use and even have preferred others... stay tuned on that.

My bottle of Stratia Liquid Gold
my bottle clearly doesn't look like the promo
 photos... because it's been well

So how did it work out for me?

Oh man this product had big shoes to fill in terms of my expectations. I waited a long time to try it. I bought bottles I couldn't touch myself to make decants while I cleared out other ceramide products and finished reviewing them. Yeah I still need to post most of those but anyway...

This product exceeded my expectations. I have this tendency to hyper focus on tasks. That means I forget to eat, sleep, and drink fluids. Oh and I don't sit at a desk all day. I'm really active when I'm not writing the blog. So... Sometimes (regularly,) I have random cuts, scrapes and bruises. I had this patch of raw skin (sorry I know it's gross...) that no amount of snails or other products would heal. I don't recommend this to everyone because this product does not claim to treat open wounds and... Yeah safety first.

I decided it couldn't get any worse (yes, yes it could I've had infections that spread through my whole body and cost hundreds of dollars to treat...) I slathered some on. It didn't sting. Cool. I topped with an occlusive and went to bed. Was my skin crystal clear and perfect in the morning? No. But I saw the first signs of healing in weeks. In just a few days it was no longer a raw patch of angry skin. The wound still took some time to fully heal but I was making zero progress without the liquid gold. Oh yeah... and it works on my face too. It's part of my official "I've abused my skin minimal routine recovery plan." Which I really shouldn't need but... I suck at self care. This stuff is good.

I can't get the tint to really show in photographs. I shattered the screen on my recently replaced phone so it's wrapped in tape at the moment and things come out fuzzy. I had one... It's somewhere in the 4K or so photos that came back in random order from my iCloud backup the first time and were immediately saved to a flash drive.

I have seen people swatch it on paper to show the tint. I'm sorry I can't do that. I won't be wasting a drop. Seriously though... Makeup covers it. Honestly... sunscreen with any hint of that white caste people want to avoid covers it. Or just use it at night.

Final Rating?

5/5 guys. And yes... I still use Holy Snails Snowbang. This product is just totally unique. Between the two I've ditched serveral other ceramide products I had been using but didn't enjoy as much. The only real downside is that I have absolutely no excuse to buy Neogen Ceramide Oil with this in my routine...

1- I want both my money and the time I spent using this product back. It should never be used and if I encounter another in my collection it goes to the trash bin.2- The product is nothing special but not horrible. I would use it again or give it away if I got it as a free sample.
3-The product is nice enough but I would not repurchase because I have many better options. May be better suited for others
4-I really like this and would likely repurchase if I do not find something better.
5-I love this product and it has become a staple in my collection.
So now you know what the numbers mean!

Where can you find it?

$24 for 60ml from Stratia

or as I mentioned if you want to try a sample I'm no longer making them myself but I still order and provide supplies so decants are available and I can hook you up with the blogger who's taking over for now.
